Two years spent for composing, arranging, recording and mixing “Canvas”,
the last double cd by Venegoni & Co.
A strong band, put together by guitar player and composer Venegoni and producer and composer Sappino to perform a repertoire which is not strictly prog, jazz, fusion, folk or classic but , hopefully, the musical sum of all these influences.
A strong Latin and Mediterranean feel has provided the right inspiration for original compositions by Venegoni, Mortara and Sappino but also for three songs by Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti and for an arrangement of the Beatles classic “Norwegian Wood”.
The Cd features many great musicians : Jason Rebello (keyboard player with Sting, Jeff Beck and Wayne Shorter) on acoustic piano, Enzo Zirilli and Federico Ariano on drums , Alessandro Maiorino, Mauro Battisti and Paolo Franchini on acoustic bass , Roberto Puggioni on fretless bass, Piero Mortara and Francesco Sappino on acoustic piano and accordion , Silvano Borgatta on keyboards , Diego Borotti on sax soprano and Sandro Esposito on percussions .
A brand new recording to celebrate forty years of music, from first vinyl “Rumore Rosso”, recorded in 1977, to present days. I hope you will enjoy !

Un intenso cuore latino e mediterraneo che alimenta le composizioni originali di Venegoni, Mortara e Sappino ma anche tre brani del compositore brasiliano Egberto Gismonti ed un arrangiamento

When you like your prog to be more beautiful and/or accessible than prog-proggy, than this is for you! Melodic as hell and yes, Peter Falconer is quite a singer! That wouldn't go half the way without the solid songs of Pat Sanders. A great combination of skills ;-) Carsten Pieper

So what kind of music is this? "Symphonic Prog Folk" maybe...?! Difficult to put this into a drawer. Anyway, it's among the best things I've found in the last few years. The songs are of stunning beauty, with rich keyboard and guitar arrangements, plus flute, violin, and classical brass and woodwind. And let's not forget the most appealing female vocals. Just pure pleasure without rough edges. The album is issued on an italian label, and, in fact, if there weren't the occasional greek lyrics, this band might be erroneously considered an italian prog band... which is a big compliment!
